Award for Excellence in Advising
Jamie Hisel was recognized at the fall 2021 faculty meeting for CHS. She received the Award for Excellence in Advising. Jamie serves as Clinical Faculty in the Department of Environmental Health & Medical Laboratory Science. She has been with EKU for nearly ten years and teaches various courses in the EHS program curriculum. Jamie also serves as the academic advisor for all EHS students and a small portion of Pre-MLS students. In addition to teaching and advising, she leads recruitment efforts for the EHS program and advises the Student Environmental Health Association, EKU Chapter. Outside of EKU, she has served as the President-Elect, President, Past President, and now Secretary of the Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs (AEHAP). This national organization supports EHAC accredited programs, faculty, and students to advance the EH profession. Jamie has a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health, both from EKU. She is currently pursuing a DrPH in Environmental & Occupational Health at East Carolina University.
Advising is truly the heart and soul of her job at EKU. She has learned over the years that GPA & test scores only mean so much. With the proper guidance, encouragement, and often tough love – anyone can be successful. Her goal is to always provide students and advisees with the very best to achieve their goals and have a successful life & career.
